Masonry Caulk/Sealant

Masonry Caulk/Sealant is a polyurethane waterproof material, used for keeping cracks, gaps and/or joints weathertight. Polyurethane caulk is designed to stick to 2-different substrates with excellent adhesion  and has a superior lifespan compared to other caulks/sealants. It also has exceptional flexibility, perfect to withstand the expansion and contraction process of your building.

What is Masonry Caulk/Sealant?

The Most Common Areas Where Caulk/Sealant are Needed.

Ground Joints – This is where the elevation of your building meets the ground.

“Sky Joints” – This is the horizontal Skyward Facing portion of a joint.

Control Joints – This is a vertical joint on a structure, placed in a strategic location, designed to withstand the expansion and contraction of building materials due to temperature changes, moisture variations and/or structural movement. Control joints are installed to prevent the likelihood of masonry cracking and damage due to the stresses generated by such movements.

Perimeter of Windows/Doors – The perimeter of doors and windows need to be sealed and watertight where they are inserted in the elevation of a building. This is a prime example of the importance of using a polyurethane sealant to adequately adhere to 2-different substrates (metal and brick.)

Why is having adequate caulking/sealant important?

Caulking these cracks, gaps and/or joints keeps your building weather tight and prevents the spread of damage.

Why is using the proper caulk important?

To get lasting results, the correct product must be used. When it comes to caulking/sealant, it needs to be able to stick to 2-different substrates (building materials), be flexible to withstand building expansions and contractions and lastly be weather tight to prevent water intrusion and moisture damage. Fortune Restoration only uses superior polyurethane caulk/sealant such as Tremco’s “Vulkem” or Masterseal’s “Np1” to achieve these desired results.

Safeguard Your Home: The Benefits of Caulking and Sealant

At Fortune Restoration, we understand the importance of protecting your investment. One crucial aspect of maintaining a healthy and safe home is preventing moisture infiltration. This is where caulking and sealant come into play. These versatile materials act as a protective barrier against the elements, offering numerous benefits for your home/building:

Prevents Costly Damage: Moisture intrusion caused by unsealed gaps can lead to a cascade of problems, including:

  • Water damage: Leaking water can damage walls, ceilings, floors, and even the foundation of your home, resulting in costly repairs.
  • Mold and mildew growth: Moisture creates a breeding ground for mold and mildew, which can be harmful to your health and damage your property.
  • Structural deterioration: Over time, consistent exposure to water can weaken the structural integrity of your building.

Improves Energy Efficiency: Gaps and cracks around windows, doors, and other openings can allow conditioned air to escape, forcing your HVAC system to work harder to maintain the desired temperature. Proper caulking and sealing improve energy efficiency, lowering your utility bills.

Enhances Aesthetics: Professionally applied caulking and sealant provide a clean, finished look around windows, doors, siding, and other areas. This not only improves the curb appeal of your property but also contributes to a more polished and professional appearance.

Increases Comfort: By preventing drafts and air leaks, caulking and sealant help maintain a consistent and comfortable indoor temperature throughout the year.

The appropriate type of caulk or sealant depends on the specific application and materials involved. Our experienced professionals at Fortune Restoration can advise you on the best product for your needs.
